Yemeni American community members and organizations across the United States applaud the Center for Constitutional Rights and the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund (AALDEF) and support their filings on behalf of the Yemeni national Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders in the case Abdo Doe v. Mullin to halt the Trump Administration’s severe decision to end TPS for Yemen. The Administration’s decision is irresponsible, and the court should reverse.
Yemen has been going through a war and ongoing conflicts since 2015 and remains the site of one of the world’s most severe humanitarian and security crises, with over 23 million people—more than two-thirds of the population—requiring urgent aid. That’s why Yemen was designated for TPS in the first place.
Ironically, the U.S. embassy that was formerly in Yemen is currently located outside of Yemen due to dangerous conditions in the country. On December 19, 2025, the U.S. Department of State extended a Level 4 Travel Advisory for Yemen stating “Do not travel in Yemen due to risk of terrorism, unrest, crime, health risks, kidnapping, and landmines.” And again, as recently as March 2, 2026, the State Department urged Americans to “DEPART NOW” from 14 countries, including Yemen, due to the war with Iran. Yemeni government officials backed by the U.S. couldn’t return to Yemen due to safety concerns. Despite all of this, the Department of Homeland Security has made the decision to terminate Yemen TPS. This decision is cruel and unfathomable and has no real basis in facts or country conditions.
There are thousands of Yemeni nationals with TPS, which has afforded them the ability to remain safely in the U.S. and to work to support themselves and their families. Such protection has been lifesaving for many families including students, workers and parents of U.S. citizen children who are currently protected from a dangerous return to Yemen.
As Yemeni Americans, we stand shoulder to shoulder with our immigrant brothers and sisters who are part of our community. We will, alongside organizations like the Center for Constitutional Rights and AALDEF, pursue all tools available, legal or otherwise, to ensure they remain safe in the U.S. We hope the court will do just that.
