Family of Warrant Officer Nader Saleh Urges Disclosure of His Fate After Eight Years of Enforced Disappearance in Aden

The family of Warrant Officer Nader Saleh Mohammed Ali is urgently appealing for information about his fate, eight years after he was forcibly disappeared while performing his duties at the Criminal Investigation Department in Aden in 2017. Since his disappearance, no charges have been brought against him, nor has he been granted any form of communication with his family, all amid complete silence from the relevant authorities.

In an appeal addressed to the American Center for Justice (ACJ), the family stated that they have pursued every possible avenue since the moment contact with Nader was lost. They have appealed to his security unit, the Security Directorate of the Southern Transitional Council, the Specialized Criminal Prosecution Office, the National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations to Human Rights, and the International Committee of the Red Cross. Despite these efforts, they have received no response, and no legal justification has been provided for his continued disappearance.

Nader, a native of Al-Azariq District in Al-Dhalea Governorate, was among the first to join the resistance during the war with the Houthi movement. He played a key role in securing the Al-Shaab area of the temporary capital, Aden, and was widely respected for his integrity in safeguarding both public and private property. According to his family, his principled stance made him a target for powerful individuals seeking to seize control of a major real estate investment project. He refused to comply, even in the face of severe pressure and threats.

The suffering caused by Nader’s disappearance has deeply impacted his entire family. They were forced to sell their home in order to pursue justice. His elder brother was injured in a traffic accident; his father suffered a nervous breakdown; and his only other brother had to relocate to a remote and impoverished neighborhood, where lack of access to basic services forced his children to drop out of school due to the unaffordable cost of daily transportation.

The American Center for Justice (ACJ) strongly condemns the continued enforced disappearance of Warrant Officer Nader Saleh Mohammed Ali. The Center affirms that his case constitutes a clear and grave instance of enforced disappearance, in violation of international humanitarian law and the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance, which strictly prohibits secret detention and the denial of fundamental rights.

The ACJ calls for an immediate, independent investigation into this crime, and demands the unconditional disclosure of Nader Saleh’s fate. It also calls for the prosecution of those responsible for his detention and for those complicit in concealing the truth. The Center urges the relevant authorities to uphold their legal and moral responsibilities, emphasizing that impunity only fuels further violations in Yemen and undermines the prospects for justice and accountability.
