We are deeply saddened and outraged by the horrific mass shooting that took place today at the Islamic Center of San Diego, where innocent lives were lost in an act of violence that has shaken the entire community. Places of worship are meant to be sanctuaries of peace, faith, and safety — never targets of fear and hatred.
We strongly condemn this attack and all forms of hate-driven violence. Crimes motivated by bigotry and intolerance have no place in America and must never be normalized in our society. At the same time, we must acknowledge that reckless rhetoric and inflammatory statements from extremists — including public figures and political voices — can contribute to an environment that fuels suspicion, division, and hatred toward minority communities.
The American Center for Justice believes we all share a collective responsibility to stand against hate in all its forms and to defend the values that define this country: diversity, religious freedom, mutual respect, and the dignity of every human being. America’s strength has always come from its pluralism and its ability to bring people of different backgrounds together under shared principles of liberty and justice.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and the broader community during this painful time.
