Michigan- The American Center for Justice (ACJ) welcomes the announcement by the Houthi group on Monday, May 5, 2025, regarding the release of human rights activist Rabab Al-Mudhwaahi, Program Director at the National Democratic Institute (NDI), after nearly 11 months of arbitrary detention as part of a broad security campaign targeting international organization staff in Houthi-controlled areas.
While ACJ appreciates this positive step, it reiterates its call for the immediate and unconditional release of all detained women held by the Houthis, as well as all individuals arbitrarily detained by both the Houthi group and the Yemeni government without discrimination or delay.
The Center affirms that mass and selective detentions represent a blatant violation of international human rights and humanitarian law, both of which prohibit arbitrary arrest and require the protection of the dignity and safety of detainees.
Finally, the American Center for Justice emphasizes that ending such practices is essential to establishing the rule of law, promoting inclusive peace, and ensuring accountability for all human rights violations in Yemen.
