Michigan – The American Center for Justice (ACJ) expresses its deep concern over the inflammatory and offensive comments made by Senator John Kennedy during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on hate crimes. Instead of focusing on the topic, Senator Kennedy unjustly targeted Ms. Maya Berry, Executive Director of the Arab American Institute, accusing her of supporting Hamas and Hezbollah and suggesting she should "hide her head in a bag."
These remarks represent blatant religious incitement against Arabs and Muslims, contributing to a growing trend of hate and divisive rhetoric in American politics. It is alarming that a hearing meant to address hate crimes was misused to promote racist attacks.
    Responses to Kennedy’s Remarks:
    * Medea Benjamin, human rights activist: "We filed an ethics complaint with the Senate Ethics Committee against Senator Kennedy for his disgraceful behavior. He must answer to Maya Berry, Arab Americans, Palestinians, and the public."
    * Rep. Ilhan Omar, Minnesota’s 5th District: "We must all speak out against hate speech wherever we see it."
    ACJ’s Call to Action:
The ACJ calls for a firm response to Senator Kennedy’s remarks, demanding a formal apology to Ms. Maya Berry and the Arab and Muslim communities. We urge Congress to investigate and hold accountable those responsible for spreading hate.
We must stand together against hate speech and promote respectful dialogue across all parts of American society, building a future based on justice and equality.
