Michigan- The American Center for Justice (ACJ) expresses its profound concern over the violent attack on a young girl in Detroit, committed by 73-year-old Gary Lansky, who has been charged with assault with intent to murder. While the severity of the charges is clear, this deeply disturbing incident requires an immediate, transparent, and comprehensive investigation to determine all contributing factors, including the potential involvement of hate as a motivating force.

We call upon the Detroit Police Department and the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office to rigorously scrutinize every detail of this case. In light of the recent rise in violent assaults, it is crucial to ascertain whether hate played a role in this act. The community deserves a full and transparent account, and the victim and her family deserve swift and fair justice. The outcome of this case holds broader significance, highlighting the need to protect vulnerable members of society, especially children, and to confront hate-based violence wherever it emerges.

The ACJ remains committed to advocating for a thorough investigation and will closely monitor the proceedings to ensure justice is served. Violence against children is abhorrent and must be met with decisive action from the legal system, addressing not only the crime itself but also any underlying biases that may have contributed to it.

We extend our deepest sympathies to the victim and her family during this difficult time. The ACJ stands firm in its mission to advocate for justice, accountability, and the protection of all individuals, regardless of their background or identity.
