Michigan - The American Center for Justice (ACJ) announced that it has joined a collective letter sent by more than 40 American Islamic and Palestinian organizations to CNN correspondents, Jake Tapper and Dana Bash, urging journalists to ask questions to both U.S. President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump regarding the ongoing genocide crimes in Gaza, hate crimes, and student rights to freedom of expression during the upcoming presidential debate between the two tomorrow.
The joint letter, signed by ACJ, stated: "Given the major international and domestic challenges facing our nation, this discussion provides an important opportunity to educate the American people on the positions of President Biden and former President Trump on critical issues, particularly the ongoing war waged by the Israeli government in Gaza with U.S. support, and the related escalation of the conflict here in America."
The organizations, in their joint letter, called on CNN journalists to ask both Biden and Trump questions centered on the possibility of the United States using its financial leverage to compel Netanyahu's government to comply with international law and agree to the ceasefire plan proposed by the Biden administration.
Additionally, the letter seeks to understand the measures, if any, that both Biden and Trump will take to address the reported increase in complaints related to anti-Muslim, anti-Palestinian, and anti-Semitic incidents occurring across the country.
Furthermore, the letter asks about the role the federal government should play in protecting the physical safety and free speech rights of students on American college campuses.
The organizations concluded their joint letter to CNN journalists by stating, "We hope that your moderation reflects the seriousness of these issues and others that are of great importance to many Americans, including American Muslims. Your role as moderators is pivotal in fostering an inclusive and fair discussion, and we trust that you will approach these topics with the depth and sensitivity they require, without bias. It is crucial to avoid any favoritism towards Israel."
