Michigan - The American Center for Justice (ACJ) joined a joint statement launched by 52 regional and local organizations concerned with freedoms of opinion and expression and human rights in Yemen.
The statement called for the necessity of establishing an independent joint international and local committee to investigate crimes committed against journalists by all conflicting parties in Yemen.
The statement released on International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, affirmed that the perpetrators of crimes committed against them in Yemen escape impunity. In 52 out of 54 murder cases, the killers go unpunished, and the victims are denied redress.
The organizations called for the immediate release of journalists who were arbitrarily arrested, as well as an end to exploiting them to work without clear contracts that guarantee their rights and not exposing them to danger, and to prohibit all forms of reprisal against them for exercising the right to opinion and expression.
