The American Center for Justice held a symposium focused on its report “Manufacturing Violence and Hatred which exposes the Houthi violations against Children in Yemen
Michigan - September 29, 2023 - The American Center for Justice revealed the Houthi group’s violations perpetrated against children in Yemen and using them in the war, during the launch event of its report entitled “Manufacturing Violence and Hatred :How the Houthi group uses children in the war in Yemen.”
The event was attended by a number of civil society activists in the United States of America.
Latifa Jamel, President of the American Center for Justice:-
Speaking at the event, Latifa Jamel said that the report aimed to shed light on the grave violations committed by the Houthi group against children in Yemen. She even stressed the need to stop these violations and protect children.
Jamel added that the report revealed how the Houthi group exploited children in war by forcing them to fight or work in military camps or recruiting girls into the group’s work to search the homes of opponents.
Ibrahim Abu Hatem, Executive Director of the American Center for Justice:-
For his part, Mr. Abu Hatem said that the report emphasized the importance of halting the war in Yemen and protecting children from violations.
Abu Hatem added that American and Arab human rights organizations had an important role in defending human rights in Yemen and protecting children from recruitment and exploitation.
Additionally, Abu Hatem spoke about the duties and responsibilities of Arab- American citizens regarding the Yemeni cause and how they could be active in humanitarian organizations operating in Yemen.
Abdul-Rahman Barman, Director of the Yemen and Middle East Office at the American Center for Justice (ACJ):-
Speaking at the event, Mr. Barman focused on how the Houthi group exploits children in war, and how these children are trained to fight and use weapons.
Barman added that the report revealed the risks to which the Houthi- recruited children are exposed, for they return either in pieces or with psychological illnesses or permanent disabilities.
Report recommendations
The report states a number of recommendations, including:
- Working to stop the war in Yemen and protect children from violations.
- putting pressure on the Houthi group to stop recruiting children in war.
- Supporting human rights organizations operating in Yemen.
- Helping children who were recruited by the Houthi group return to their normal lives.
