Abductees’ Mothers Association and the American Center for Justice (ACJ) Launch the Campaign of Yemeni Abductees Day-18 April

The Yemeni Abductees Day campaign will be launched tomorrow, Sunday, with the aim of declaring 18 of April a popular and official day to end the suffering of the abductees and to provide them with rehabilitation.

This campaign, which is the result of the cooperation between Abductees’ Mothers Association and the American Center for Justice (ACJ) and the participation of a number of activists and organizations, aims to solve the issue of abductees and the arbitrarily detained individuals kidnapped by the different parties to the conflict, whether the militias, the military formations or the government agencies. The campaign also aims at releasing the kidnapped and arbitrarily detained individuals, ending the suffering of them and of their families, and ending all forms of extortion they are subjected to.

The objectives of this campaign include ending the suffering of the families of the kidnapped, the arbitrarily detained and the forcibly disappeared individuals by taking care of them socially and economically in order to rehabilitate them and help them face the detention and its social and economic impacts, as well as criminalizing all forms of discrimination against the abductees and their families.

Moreover, the campaign focuses on endeavoring to bring the perpetrators of kidnapping, enforced disappearance and torture, from all warring parties, to local and international courts, and to ensure they do not enjoy impunity.

The campaign calls on the official authorities represented by the Presidential Leadership Council and the government to urgently and fairly work on solving the problem of kidnapped individuals, taking care of them, adding their names to the act of the families of martyrs and fighters of the Yemeni revolution and implementing Stockholm agreement, which seeks the release of all abductees and detainees by all parties to the conflict.

The campaign includes a number of human rights events, media activities and interactions on social media.

In addition, Abductees’ Mothers Association and the American Center for Justice (ACJ) organize a panel discussion to advocate the cause of the abductees tomorrow, Sunday, at 11:30 pm Yemen time which hosts the Director of the Middle East and North Africa Department at AFD International Abdul-Majid Mrari, the president of the Abductees’ Mothers Association Amat Alsalam Al-Hajj and the human rights activist Riyadh Al-Dubai.

Abductees’ Mothers Association and the American Center for Justice (ACJ) called on all activists and all local and international media and human rights organizations to show solidarity with the abductees and arbitrarily detained individuals and their families, and to pressure for their release, and to obtain their full rights.  They also call for active participation in the online campaign under the hashtags

The issue of abductees and arbitrarily detained persons is one of the pressing issues and neglected grievances, as the perpetrators of this crime remain unpunished and continue committing their violations whereas the abductees and their families suffer severe psychological, social and economic effects, in addition to being exposed to complete neglect and not receiving rehabilitation.
